Chris B. Stucky was born Nov. 5, 1886, at the home of his parents Benjamin  C. and Veronika Stucky, 2 miles south and 1/4 west of the present Moundridge, KS.  As a young boy, he attended school at district #51, southwest of his home, and graduated from the 8th grade.  He also liked sports, particularly skating, and loved to do the figure 8 and other fancy patterns.
He came to live at the Alta Mill near his brothers Jake and John after his marriage to Susie Toevs on May 17, 1911.  His home was the northernmost of the three.

He was a good mechanic, and ran a garage and the Alta Mill store.  He attended the Rumely mechanic school in LaPorte, Ind., and also serviced the REO cars and trucks, and prepared them for sale.  He was a good amateur photographer and enjoyed taking pictures and developing them himself in his home darkroom.

A sideline for which he was known was piano tuning, as he was one of the three musical Stucky brothers.  Chris's specialty was the guitar, but he also played saxophone, steel guitar, and banjo.  On cool summer evenings, one of the brothers might begin playing their instrument on the front porch.  The sound of the music softly drifted over the Mill neighborhood, and soon the other brothers would come and join in the playing, usually on Jake's porch.

As a great "sport", he would organize activities such as skating races on hard-packed sleet or ice, and crack-the-whip games.
Chris died suddenly Jan. 11, 1937 at age 50.  Susie continued to live in the house near the Mill until 1956 when she moved to 410 Plum St. in Newton.  The mill house was moved to near Walton. (Today Bill and Sherry Unruh have restored it beautifully) But Susie cared for her aunt Katherine, and later sister Helen.  One of her favorite activities was to do quilting with ladies from the church.  Susie died Apr. 26, 1977, and was laid to rest beside Chris in the First  Mennonite Church Cemetery, Moundridge *(information from Kenny Stucky Sr.)
